Felt the flu-like symptoms big time today. Headache, dizzy-not dizzy, muscle aches, chills, severe fatigue. Conked out for a 3 hour nap in the afternoon.

today was a terrible day. After a gluten free breakfast at blue baker, there were stomach cramps. Then the anxiety and crying started. Finally late in the afternoon I had 2 fresh pitas from Almarah. The depression and anxiety lifted. But I started feeling weird physically, even more tired, tiny bit dizzy when I stood, like when you are sleep deprived. Moving about took a lot of effort. I was t very hungry after the pitas, but had a bit of fish at 9 for dinner. Exhausted niw, going to bed early.

Probiotic
  • 1 pill with lunch
EnteraGam
  • 1 packet in 4 oz water with dinner

Notes
:
  • Woke up so early. And surprisingly chipper.
  • Starting individualized candida diet today as proscribed by nutritionist. No sugar, no dairy, 1 cup of fruit & 1-2 cups grains daily.
  • Had 4 Rainier cherries for snack after lunch, after probiotics. Terrible stomach cramps, ending in BMs. No diarrhea, but the last one was soft. My energy was very drained after that, and all evening I've felt sluggish and tired, with a little bit of a headache. Did eat a normal dinner, seems to have gone ok. Update: it could have been the lettuce from lunch?

Fluconazole
  • 1 pill just before bed (11 pm)

Notes:
  • Taking fluconazole just before bed was brilliant. I had a mild headache, and my tummy was a little queasy, but I feel asleep just fine.
  • First day I pushed the vitamin D drops to 3. Noticed I had very deep, mild intestinal cramps which may or may not have been related: it was a stressful day going to a nutritionist. Something to keep an eye on.

For my info:
  • I have one nutritional counseling appointment per year
  • It's 100% covered, no copay
    • It's considered "preventative"
  • Any more appointments are all on me and do not go toward my deductible
  • I have to get a referral from my PCP doctor
  • It doesn't look like the dietician my integrative doctor recommended takes my crappy plan. If she does, will have to ask PCP doctor to submit a referral.

I haven't been doing check-ins, because I haven't been changing much up. But I'm starting back on Vitamin D (topically) today, and will shortly start a bunch of new stuff, so it's time to keep track of how I feel again.

EnteraGam
  • 1 packet in 4 oz water with dinner
Notes:
  • While on vacation, lots of tummy ick. I was taking the EnteraGam, but I think additives were doing me in from eating out at restaurants every day. So keeping clear of additives still very important.
  • Also while on vacation to San Diego, there was lots of walking. I didn't do touristy stuff, but you end up parking and walking a lot in SD. And the more walking helped my sore Achille's tendon IMMENSELY. So thinking I need to try get out and walk around the block again.
    • The Piton X30 stickers helped so much too. More than kinesiology tape.

Quick check-in: Last night I had the insufferable stomach pain again. Once again I had us headed to the emergency room before it faded. It came on much faster than it has in the past. I don't think there were 2 distinct pain sites, just one band of pain around the front of my stomach. It was a little higher up that usual, I think? I ended up putting my seat all the way back in the car and that helped so much the problem felt solved within five minutes. No clue what caused it.

Starting to figure out payment & such.
  • Acyclovir is SUPER cheap. Yay!
  • Diflucan: $400.13 for a 30 day supply
    • Generic (fluconazole): 23.81 for a 30 day supply
 Some clarifications:

2.Take the Diflucan for 4 weeks.  I gave you refills which you may not need to take but good to have.
You can take a second go around if you feel like it's not gone or coming back.

3.You can start the probiotics now and continue until we meet next time.

4.Start the yeast diet and if you do very well you can decide whether or not to make it be a lifestyle change.  Often the yeast problem will return if you resume a diet that encourages yeast overgrowth.

Note from probiotics bottle: Do not take the S. boulardii supplementation at the same time as any prescription antifungals, such as Nystatin, Diflucan, Sporonox, etc.  Antifungals kill S. boulardii; therefore, physicians usually recommend that they be taken at a different time of the day (separated by 2 to 3 hours).

Saw integrative medicine doctor today. There is lots to fix. We went over so much my brain hurts. Here are the big take-aways I remember.
  • Epstein-Barr is active and is the cause of many other problems.
  • My male hormones are a bit too high
  • Candida (yeast) overgrowth (thanks to Epstein-Barr paving the way for lots of bugs to attack).
  • We're not ruling out Lyme disease, but the Epstein-Barr is clear and needs to be addressed first.
    • Plan to test again for Lyme later using I-spot test? A neurological test? Costs much less than IgeneX.
    • Need to bring back IgeneX kit.
  • Genetic testing was done, and results for that will be in about 8 weeks.
    • There's an online questionnaire I need to fill out, but I don't know how. Need to follow-up about that.
  • Yup, cortisol is waaaay too low.
  • Yup, inflammation is waaaaay too high.
  • Overall, doctor very very convinced that the large percentage of my issues stem from biotoxins (not man-made toxins). Which boils down to bacteria & viruses. Just need to continue isolating which ones and working to curb them back down to a level where my immune system can keep them in check.
  • Lost 1 inch around my waist. It's the EnteraGam helping my digestion.
  • Also he's worried about some sort of nerve thing going on. Apparently my left eye blinks funny.
Stuff we need to fix & how:
  • Candida overgrowth (first)
    • Antibiotics (Diflucan). 1 pill every other day for first 4 pills. Then take 1 pill twice per week.
    • Probiotic: Kirkman Saccromyces Boulardi (a good yeast that competes with Candida). 1 daily with largest meal.
    • Candida diet (ugh). Recommended a dietician to help with that.
  • Epstein-Barr (EBV) (second)
    • Anti-viral (Acyclovir). Twice daily (not until after done with Diflucan).
Stuff to take to support body while fixing other things:
  • Continuing with EnteraGam: 1 packet per day with largest meal
  • Try D3 again: Rub it onto skin daily, 4-6 drops
  • Biotic Research Liquid Iodine: 2 drops daily
  • Ortho-Molecular Adren-ALL (adrenal support with cortisol): slowly build up to 2 daily. Once early in the morning, once in early afternoon. Do not take with thyroid meds.

eliste: (scared in bed)
I had a theory that the side effects from the EnteraGam might be happening because I'm not eating enough. When I add it all up, I find I'm really only eating about 1400-1600 calories a day.

So I tried snacking today. Now stomach cramps and I have a headache. Delightful.
  • Do I need to back way down on the vitamin D? I put four drops in my drink and I'm only halfway through it.
  • Was cheese a bad option?
  • Was it the fast food fries I nicked from bf?
  • The crackers?
  • WHAT?!
This is so frustrating because the EnteraGam is working. I have more energy now and am sleeping better, which means I must be digesting better and that inflammation must be going down too. So I won't stop taking it, but I am sad to have traded one set of symptoms for another. Some days I feel like the 20 years I spent carefully cultivating safe food is out the window and I don't know what's safe to eat anymore.

UPDATE: It was the vitamin D causing the EnteraGam side effects.

hmm.

NuMedica Micellized Vitamin D3 1200 IU drops
  • 5 drops in watered down juice, @ 2:30 pm
EnteraGam
  • 1 packet in 4 oz watered down juice
Notes:
  • Energy much higher last two days. Not clean the whole house high, but I went out and did a couple errands without feeling like it was moving mountains.
  • Been napping last few days ~3-4 pm. Feeling better for it. Napping anywhere from 30 mins - 2 hours.
  • Still not sure about EnteraGam. Diarrhea is stopped in its tracks for sure, which is good. But getting stomach cramps every day now, which are anywhere from painful to severe, and last from a moment or two to a couple hours. Usually only a moment or two. And very gassy in the evenings after I take it.
  • Return of the headache this evening. Every time I go back to 5 drops of Vitamin D, the headache happens. I'll e-mail Dr. tomorrow.
